Sky News Leads the Way

Sky News will become the first 24 hour news channel to air in high definition in the spring of next year.

Over the next six months the entire studio will be upgraded ready for the launch of 24 hour HD viewing in April 2010.

The rapid development of technology in the last decade has dramatically changed the way news is presented to the public. This week Sky News has also followed the lead of the BBC and launched a live stream of broadcasts on its website.

A Sky source said, “The pace of change is unbelievable. The web has taken a bigger role in the last four or five years and it is now just as important as TV”.

The next change at Sky will see all studio footage and stories from reporters in the field filmed using HD cameras.

However, when news stories break, Sky relies on photos and video’s sent in by the public, in order to get some news content on air as quickly as possible. These particular items will not be able to be shown in HD and will appear as they do on current news broadcasts.
